What is Testicular Cancer?

Testicular cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the testes. Although it is relatively rare, it is the most common cancer in young men aged 15-35. Early detection and treatment are highly effective, resulting in excellent prognosis for most patients.

With early detection and appropriate treatment, the prognosis for testicular cancer is excellent, with high cure rates.  Early diagnosis is key to effective management

Symptoms

Common signs and symptoms include:

  • a painless lump or swelling in one of the testes,
  • a feeling of heaviness or discomfort in the scrotum,

Some men may notice enlargement or a change in the shape of the testicle. It’s important to seek medical evaluation if any of these symptoms occur, especially if they are persistent or worsening.

Treatment options

Treatment for testicular cancer typically involves surgical removal of the affected testicle (orchidectomy). Depending on the type and stage of cancer, additional therapies such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or surveillance may be recommended. Advances in treatment have greatly improved survival rates, and most men can expect a good quality of life following successful treatment.
